A Watcher’s Anointing
Recently the Lord gave me the scripture in Daniel 7:11 which says:
“I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn was speaking…” and so I want to speak to you today about being a watcher, especially as it pertains to the sound of the horned one being heard.
In my early morning prayer, the Lord took me back to my early childhood and showed me how the spirit of distraction and its sister spirit, the deaf and dumb spirit, operated in my life and how these two spirits were passed down through the natural bloodline. These spirits are at work in such a way as to cause us NOT to watch. That is their very nature. They are violent intruders with an insatiable appetite assigned to undermine the activity and commitment of the true watcher. This is an hour in which we MUST stand watch as never before. In this season, beloved, be very aware of the devious workings of these two spirits.
Matthew 24:43 says:
“But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.”
The spiritual meaning of this verse taken in context is that Jesus will come as a thief to those who are NOT watching. Most of us could say without question that the warfare activity in the spirit is higher than ever before and that the operation of the spirit of distraction and the deaf and dumb spirit are functioning at an extremely high level. But the bombardment from the enemy’s camp has only served to awaken us to a new level of awareness of who we are in God. The violent attacks of the enemy has forced us to become more violent than ever and we have become, finally, a force to be reckoned with. Do not be dismayed in your hour of trial. I believe one of the things God is desiring to impart to us through these horrific enemy onslaughts is the anointing to watch.
But first we must understand that there are both good and bad watchers. The Book of Enoch devotes much of its attention to the watchers who fell. It is in the third book of Enoch that gives attention to the unfallen watchers. Although this book is not canonical, it has been used as a reference source by many since it is a very ancient piece of apocalyptic literature. In fact, Jude 1:14-15 is quoting from 1 Enoch 1: 9. In the Book of Enoch, the watchers are angels dispatched to earth to watch over the humans. I am one who was watched over so as to come forth in power as a watchman myself. We must all learn to become faithful watchers in the times in which we now live.
If you look up the definition to watch, you will find that it means to remain awake. It means to give attention; to keep vigil; to keep guard. It means to take heed lest through remission and indolence some destructive calamity suddenly overtake one.
Part of why we were born-again is so that we would be redeemed out of the hand of the enemy in order to protect, guard, attend to, and remain awake to the things of the Kingdom of God. As believer’s, we have been supernaturally birthed as ones who should be in a state of alertness, giving continuous discernment to the tactics of the evil one. As watchmen, we are assigned to patrol.
The enemy is speaking much in this hour but Satan has a sound that should be very distinct to those who have trained their senses. A great contending for the destiny of God’s people is happening in our midst as never before. Our very identity is being challenged. This is an hour that we must know with certainty the purpose in which we have been called. Through the trials and testings we have experienced, the enemy has been relentless in his efforts to discredit us, thwart the plan of God for our lives, and steal our God-given identity. But through it all, we are getting a clearer picture of Genesis 50:20 = what the enemy meant for evil, God meant for good!
1 Corinthians 14:10 says:
“There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without significance.” It is true that there are many voices in the world and all of these voices have meaning. That is why we are told to be careful HOW we are to listen and hear.
Luke 8:18 says it this way in the Amplified Version:
“So be careful how you listen: for whoever has (a teachable heart), to him more (understanding) will be given; and whoever does not have (a longing for truth), even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”
This thought is spoken of in more detail in Mark 4:24. It reads like this:
“And He said to them, be careful what you are hearing. The measure (of thought and study) you give (to the truth you hear) will be the measure (of virtue and knowledge) that comes back to you – and more (besides) will be given to you who hear.”
There is a sound that we must know by the Spirit. We must discern and differentiate not only the blast and discharge of the Spirit of God but we must also recognize the clamorous uproar of the evil one for both are reverberating and resonating in the atmosphere with the meticulous intent to allure and persuade with great appeal.
Part of being a watcher is guarding our ears and our mouths. What are we hearing? What are we speaking? Is it a sound to guard against or is it a sound to welcome and embrace?
Proverbs 18:20 says:
“A man’s stomach will be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.” Whatever we are listening to will go down into our innermost parts and begin to fill us. The sound of words are powerful and they will produce either life or death.
In war, there is an order and a sound that leads God’s people into life and victory. The horn is speaking very loudly in this hour. So is God. So are our circumstances. To which one will we yield?
James 1:2-3 says:
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” “Worketh” means to fashion something, as in render one fit for a thing so as to bring about something. God wants to bring about something in our lives and He has to first make us fit for it. That’s why we can count it all joy. God is working to bring about something in us that will make us fit and suitable for the spectacular design He has for each one of us.
The word “patience” means endurance; a continuance; a steadfastness. It literally means a remaining under. When we choose to remain under the benefit of this type of training for kingdom purposes, it perfects and sharpens us. It is this endurance that is the condition upon which believers are to be admitted to reign with Him (2 Timothy 2:12) and it is because of this that we are strengthened (Colossians 1:11). This patience comes from a root word meaning cheerful/hopeful and this speaks of the attitude of the heart. We can serve God, but we must serve Him with joyfulness and with gladness of heart (Deuteronomy 28:47).
So we must continue to be very watchful as we serve the Lord in gladness and as we wait in hope. Watching as God fashions us and makes us fit for something wonderful. Watching and guarding from the thief the great treasure that has been placed within our earthen vessels. Watching as stewards over what God has delegated and placed in our charge. Watching to guard our ears from the pompous words that the horn is speaking. Watching to resist all the various ways the evil one conjures up havoc against us because 1 Peter 5: 8-9 tells us to “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom him may devour. Resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
Hebrews 6:12 says that it is through faith and patience that we inherit the promises. Jesus did not inherit the promise until He first endured under patience because Hebrews 5: 8 tells us “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience through the things He suffered.” I believe that there is now an even greater requirement as we enter this next season of our journey. Jesus had faith, but then there was a level of obedience that was only learned by what He went through. The bar has been raised.
So let me encourage you today. Stand strong in the midst of your trial. God is fitting you for something wonderful. It will give you the future and expected end that He has planned for you. Do not give ear to the pompous, overstated words that the enemy may be speaking. The enemy’s voice can become very strong in our weakness but this is not a time to be disarmed by the intimidating efforts of the adversary. It is NOT a time to shrink back in dismay or become numbed by confusion. This is not a time to be lulled to sleep by the rhythmic demands of this world. It is not a time to draw back. Hebrews 10: 38 teaches us that God will have no pleasure in anyone who draws back. Rather it is a time of overcoming and birthing. It is a time to hold fast our confession of faith. It is a time to advance, seize, increase, multiply, and bring forth.
Blow the trumpet in Zion! Sound the alarm! Shout! Cry out! Awake! Watch!
Do not be swayed or captivated by the activity that is occurring in the natural realm. In truth, these things are nothing more than smoking mirrors. Rather, Hebrews 12:2 in the Passion instructs us to do this:
“We look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who birth faith within us and who leads us forward into faith’s perfection.”
As we stay determined to resist those things that would keep us distracted and cause us NOT to be faithful to stand guard and watch, God will show Himself strong in our behalf.
Philippians 2:13 in the Amplified says:
“For it is not your strength, but it is God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work (that is, strengthening you, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose) for His good pleasure.”
There is an anointing being released to watch in this hour. Take your place at the gate. Be strong and of good courage. The Lord is with you!
