The Book of Ecclesiastes discloses a critical truth in the very structure of God’s grand design. Chapter 3:1 says: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
We are presently in a time of great transition. We are not only finishing one month (Av) and beginning Elul, but we are finishing an entire year and beginning a brand new one. It is a very strategic place to be positioned and one of great importance.
The beginning and the end have always been very important concepts to God. Creation and the consummation of all things play an intricate role in all of our lives. Currently, we are in a Kairos moment of time where we must finish well so that we can begin anew. As we approach the conclusion of 5778, it is imperative that we should lend ourselves to a time for review and examination of the projects that have been given to our care. In taking this type of spiritual inventory, we can be assured of finishing well.
I especially think of the Finishing Anointing as the Head of the Year approaches. The month of Elul marks the ending of the Biblical year. It is a month in which we are encouraged to take time for personal reflection and to make the necessary corrections for finishing well. It is a time that we prepare to complete old assignments in order to be able to take up new ones. The month of Elul initiates our spiritual preparedness for the New Year that is about to begin. How exciting!
As believers, it is important that we understand and realize that the Finishing Anointing already abides in us. It is not something we must ask for as if we are bereft of its power. The Finishing Anointing is part of salvation’s package. We already carry the anointing to finish within us. It has always been God’s design that we complete and finish all that He has called us to do and He has devised a way for us to accomplish all of His good pleasure by placing the Finishing Anointing inside of us. How marvelous!
The word “finish” has many definitions. It means:
- To stop doing an activity or task after reaching the point at which there is nothing left to do (i.e. finished cleaning the room)
- To bring to a required or desired state (i.e. finish the painting = complete)
- To arrive at or attain the end of (i.e. finish the race)
- To perform the last maneuver in an offensive play (i.e. scoring a goal)
It is specifically this last definition that I wish to center in on and target as the objective of this teaching.
As we take this spiritual survey and assess those things that are still needing to be completed, we find there is a cry in our hearts that calls out to God in the time of every major transition. It says: “Lord God, give me the divine strategy to perform the last maneuver needed to complete every charge given to me and outwit the enemy successfully!” This is the war cry that we carry and it should echo even louder as we approach the end of the year. The strategy for delivering the last maneuver cannot be found in the realm of human reasoning or rational perception. The answer lies only with the Spirit of the Most High God.
Zechariah 4: 6 says: “Then the angel answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord.”
The operative words here are “by My Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is the only true Source of the anointing. It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that anything of lasting value is ever accomplished. Whenever God wants a task to be completed, we can quicken the finisher’s anointing within us. That extraordinary power goes to work in our behalf as we yield our members to its awesome workings. It’s built in to every believer. Why? Because God desires that we finish well.
The Bible says in Revelation 22:13 that God is the “Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” That Omega anointing defines the finishing anointing. It is the power to complete what has been started. From the beginning to the end, from the start to the finish, the Alpha and the Omega is present to accomplish what is needed. The Alpha and the Omega will do what only He can do, but we must be diligent to do our part as well.
The Hebrew year of 5779 commences on the Eve of September 9, 2018 which will be Tishrei 1. Before that day arrives, I encourage you to sanctify and set apart time to inspect where you are regarding those tasks that have not yet been completed. This should be a holy time devoted to a sacred cause. God has placed within our hands things that need to be accomplished. Remember what Jesus said in Luke 12:48: “When someone has been given much, much will be required in return.” These are divine assignments that we should never take lightly. Be careful and attentive as you bring them before the Lord. Handle them as things of great value and be determined to finish them well.
Pray this prayer with me:
I thank You, Father God, for the finishing anointing that You have given me to accomplish, complete, and successfully perform the last maneuver essential for carrying out and reaching the intended goal of my God-given tasks for 5778. I rest in the fact that it is not by might nor power, but it is only by Your Spirit that this is accomplished. I trust in the completed work of Calvary enabling me to end all things well.
Therefore, according to Ecclesiastes 7:8 which says: “Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof…” I stretch forth my hands over all my assignments for 5778 and, by faith, release the finishing anointing over them and declare that the power of the Spirit of God has imparted to me all the necessary parts, elements, and steps needed to achieve, carry out, and bring to a close every assignment for this year. As this year wraps up, I decree that all tasks given to my charge will wrap up also. As they come to their final end, let them be made acceptable in Your sight because I have kept the faith and trusted in Psalm 57:2 which says: “I will cry out unto God Most High; unto God that performs all things for me.”
Father, You are the Alpha and Omega. As I finish 5778 well, I look to You to begin a new and glorious work in me for the year 5779. Let me be a vessel of honor set aside for Your special purposes. Let the Spirit of Might overtake and enable me to do great exploits for Your glory. Use me to tear down and bring to ruin the kingdom of darkness. Surround me like a shield as I enter places where even angels fear to tread. Develop, mature, and improve my spiritual hearing. Sharpen and refine my spiritual vision. Train my hands for the battle ahead and give me accuracy in speaking Your Words as never before.
As the assignments of 5778 come near to their appointed end, I say that I will end this year well. And I proclaim that I will enter the upcoming year filled with divine strength and renewed purpose of heart so as to faithfully and successfully carry out Your will for my life in every area.
In Jesus Name, I pray!
